HMAS Bathurst honoured the original Bathurst-class corvette HMAS Bathurst, which lent its name to the entire class of 60 Australian minesweepers that served across the globe in World War II. As a modern vessel, Bathurst reflected the evolution of those rugged wartime workhorses into contemporary patrol and mine warfare ships tasked with coastal defence, training, and regional security. Her name linked generations of sailors – from those who braved U-boats and minefields to those safeguarding Australia’s maritime approaches in a new strategic era.
