Collection: HMAS Collins

HMAS Collins is the lead vessel of the Collins-class submarines, commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy in 1996. Built in Australia as part of a major sovereign defence project, Collins represents a significant leap in underwater capability, featuring advanced sonar, a high level of automation, and a long-submerged endurance. She is equipped with torpedoes and Harpoon anti-ship missiles, designed for anti-submarine, anti-surface, and intelligence-gathering operations. Throughout her service, Collins has participated in national and multinational exercises across the Indo-Pacific and has contributed to the development of Australia’s submarine doctrine and training. The submarine is home ported at HMAS Stirling in Western Australia, from where she continues frontline operations, demonstrating the technological and operational advancements of the class and underpinning Australia’s maritime defence strategy.
