Collection: HMAS Sydney (V)

Commissioned in 2020, HMAS Sydney (V) is the third and final ship of the Hobart-class guided missile destroyers at the forefront of the Royal Australian Navy’s capabilities. It is equipped with advanced air warfare systems and powerful missile defences, upholding the proud legacy of her distinguished predecessors. In 2023, Sydney (V) honoured the 645 Australians lost aboard Sydney (II) by visiting her final resting place, underscoring the ship’s enduring tradition of courage and sacrifice.

For my family, Sydney (V) carries a personal significance as the last ship of my husband’s seagoing career, adding a deeply meaningful connection to her story. Guided by the motto "Thorough and Ready," my husband’s leadership continued Sydney’s proud commissioning legacy—providing thorough guidance and instilling readiness in the face of the unknown. He enabled her ship’s company with both the structure needed for cohesion and the freedom to act independently if battle required it, ensuring they were truly prepared for any challenge.
