HMAS Dechaineux, a Collins-class submarine, was commissioned in 2001 and named in honour of Captain Emile Dechaineux, a distinguished Royal Australian Navy officer of World War II. Built in Australia, Dechaineux integrates state-of-the-art sonar, command systems, and weaponry, including heavyweight torpedoes and Harpoon missiles. She is designed for lengthy, covert patrols, anti-ship and anti-submarine missions, as well as special operations. Home ported at HMAS Stirling, Dechaineux has completed numerous operational deployments and exercises, highlighting the operational reach and flexible capability provided by Collins-class submarines.
