HMAS Melbourne (III) was one of two Australian built  guided missile frigates, serving as a long-range escort with advanced air defence, surface, and undersea warfare capabilities. Commissioned in 1992 and decommissioned in 2019, Melbourne participated in key operations in the Arabian Gulf and the Middle East, upholding the motto “Vires Acquirit Eundo” - “She Gathers Strength As She Goes.” Her sophisticated systems and helicopter operations extended her reach and effectiveness, making her a cornerstone of the modern fleet.
