Named for the city of Newcastle, HMAS Newcastle was the last Adelaide-class guided-missile frigate built for the RAN. Commissioned in 1993, she served in peacekeeping, maritime security, and humanitarian missions, including deployments to the Persian Gulf and support during the 2006 Fijian coup d’état. Newcastle’s legacy is marked by her adaptability and the enduring spirit of her crews, carrying the motto ‘Enterprise’ until her decommissioning in 2019. HMAS Newcastle was replaced by the more advanced Hobart-class guided missile destroyers, marking the ongoing modernisation of the RAN’s surface fleet.
