HMAS Parramatta (IV) is an Anzac-class frigate of the Royal Australian Navy, commissioned on 4 October 2003. Built in Williamstown, Victoria, she is the fourth ship to carry the name Parramatta and is designed for multi-role operations, including anti-submarine warfare, surface and air defence, and maritime security. Parramatta is equipped with advanced sensors and weapons systems, including a 5-inch main gun, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles (ESSM), and MU90 torpedoes. The ship also operates a Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk helicopter, significantly enhancing her surveillance and anti-submarine capabilities.
Throughout her service, HMAS Parramatta has deployed on numerous operations and exercises both in Australia and overseas, including multiple rotations to the Middle East as part of maritime security and counter-terrorism missions. She has also taken part in regional engagement activities and multinational exercises, strengthening Australia’s defence partnerships. Parramatta underwent a significant upgrade under the Anti-Ship Missile Defence (ASMD) program, ensuring she remains capable of meeting contemporary threats and maintaining her role as a key asset in the Royal Australian Navy’s surface fleet.
