Commissioned in 2020, HMAS Sydney (V) is the third and final ship of the Hobart-class guided missile destroyers, representing the pinnacle of modern naval capability for the Royal Australian Navy. Sydney is equipped with state-of-the-art air warfare systems, advanced sensors, and powerful missile defences, continuing the proud legacy of her namesake ships and their distinguished service.

Sydney holds a special place in my own family’s naval journey, as it was the last ship of my husband’s seagoing career. This connection adds a deeply personal layer to Sydney’s story – a story already rich with tradition, courage, and sacrifice. In 2023, Sydney (V) honoured the memory of the 645 Australians lost aboard Sydney (II) by visiting her final resting place, a poignant reminder of the ship’s enduring legacy and the sense of duty that binds all who serve her.
