Commissioned in 2005, HMAS Toowoomba is an Anzac-class frigate and a vital force in the Royal Australian Navy. Built in Williamstown, Victoria, Toowoomba specialises in surface and anti-submarine warfare, helicopter operations, and long-range patrols. She is equipped with advanced sensors, phased array radars, and powerful armaments, including missiles, torpedoes, and a 127mm main gun. With a top speed of 27 knots and a range of 6,000 nautical miles, Toowoomba’s versatility sees her operate seamlessly from open-ocean patrols to littoral missions.
Toowoomba’s modern crew lives and works aboard a ship designed for endurance, safety, and teamwork. Her deployments have included border protection duties, counter-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden, escort and patrol operations in the Middle East, and multilateral exercises across the Indo-Pacific. In 2009, she became the first RAN vessel to join the counter-piracy Combined Task Force 151, earning recognition for preventing piracy off Somalia.
Honouring her motto “Fearless,” HMAS Toowoomba remains a highly capable sentinel—protecting Australia’s maritime interests while fostering cooperation with international partners and allies.
